5 Minor Changes to Make to Save You Money

Have you ever looked at your bank account and wondered where your money has gone? You might not be in the position to make any major life changes but there are lots of little things you could do to help you save some money.

Review your Payments

Looking through your automatic payments section can always come as a bit of a surprise. How many forgotten payments are lingering in there? You can easily shut down and delete those payments that haven’t been used in years. You can also locate the tiny payments that you may not have noticed, such as a monthly online access charge for a platform you haven’t used in years. Removing these tiny payments can add up to big savings.

Check Your Tech

Being able to upgrade all of your technology might seem like a good idea but it is a very expensive one, although it could save you money in the long term. However, most people can’t afford to swap out all of our tech to better, more energy efficient models all at once. Making simple changes such as using cheap LED bulbs and energy saving plugs can be a great starting point. Over time, you can swap out the TV and fridge for better models, but there is nothing wrong with starting small.

Change Jar

Using a change jar can be a great way to collect all of those random coins that you find. I used to be a stable sight in everyone’s home. Now they are pretty rare, so why not bring the tradition back? You could use a pretty bowl or an old giant alcohol bottle. Some bars still carry huge bottles and dump them, so you could grab one for free. If you are using exclusively electronic payments, your bank may have an option to save any “spare change” from your purchases into a savings account.

Switch Brands

Spending money on brand names can be a huge waste of money, especially if you need to reduce your outgoings. Simply switching to store brand or value brands for your food shopping can have a massive impact on your finances. Most of the time, you won’t notice the taste difference, but if there are certain items that you just can’t switch out, we won’t judge you for it. Many people make the switch and are surprised by how good the cheaper options can be, so don’t rule them out.

Upcycle and Recycle Everything

How much stuff have you thrown away over the years? Probably more than your fair share, but it is never too late to make the changes. Upcycling clothes and furniture has become a popular way to make your money go further. Even something as simple as keeping your big sauce jars to be reused as outdoor drinking glasses or using old socks as dusters can be helpful to your budget and the environment. Think twice before you put something in the bin or recycling because it could be useful in other ways. And if you find yourself upcycling a lot of stuff, you could consider selling some of it to make some extra money.
