How I Side Hustled £4,500 in 1 Month
Over a year ago I shared how I earned £1000 from home in 1 month. Lots of you enjoyed reading that post and I promised to write an updated version to include my new and improved side hustle income. That’s why in this post I’m going to share how I managed to earn £4,500 from side hustles in 30 days.
Please remember that I’ve been working on my side hustles for some years now and these numbers have grown over that time. My top tips for earning money from home are to start now, stay patient and find a side hustle that you enjoy.
How I Side Hustled £4,500 in 1 Month
To set the scene, I work part time (3 days a week) for the NHS – I don’t include this income in my ‘side hustle’ earnings. My main side hustle is blogging, but I also do bits of freelance work, market research, referrals and surveys. In August 2021 I earned £4,529.48 from home. This is money that I was paid (not including invoice payments I have not yet recieved). This amount is before tax and expenses have been deducted. Here’s a break down of how I earn money from home in August:
- Blogging: £2,320
- Referrals: £988.51
- Freelancing: £800
- Market Research £250
- Surveys: £74.97
- Selling: £96
Blogging as a Side Hustle = £2,320
Blogging is my favourite side hustle. I started blogging for beemoneysavvy.com in 2017 and my little blogging business as grown year on year. During August I earned £2,320 from blogging.
There are lots of ways to earn money as a blogger but my favourite is by writing sponsored blog posts (this is when a brand pays you to write about their service or product). I only write about services that I truly believe will help you to save or earn more money and these paid posts will always have a disclaimer at the start of the post.
I also earn money through affiliate marketing (when someone clicks on an affiliate on this website I earn a small commission).
Earning money as a blogger doesn’t happen overnight, it took me 5 months before I made my first £10. But with persistence, patience and lots of research it is possible for this side hustle to be very profitable.
Referral Programmes = £988.51
Lots of services offer referral programmes and being a blogger allows me to promote these referral offers pretty well. I even have a page dedicated to all the free money offers you can take advantage of. This month has been incredible for referral income, here’s a breakdown of the referral money I’ve earned in August:
- Zumo £514.97 – 0.04 worth of Bitcoin SV for each referral (I also won £300 in their referral competition).
- Freetrade £65.29 – I received 8 free shares from Freetrade’s referral scheme this month.
- PensionBee £50 – each referral offers £50 added to your pension.
- Ziglu £40 – you get £5 for each referral that signs up and exchanges £1.
- Curve £40 – I received £40 for referrals but they’ve now ended their old referral scheme.
- Stake £38.25 – a free share for each referral that signs up and invests £50.
- Tickr (now Circa 5000) £25 – I cashed out £25 from a £10 and £15 referral.
I also earned some gift cards through referral schemes too including £125 in Amazon gift card from my professional indemnity insurance provider Dinghy, £80 in Amazon gift cards from Zilch, and a £10 Amazon voucher from Snoop.
Freelancing = £800
I’ve been accepting freelance work throughout my working life and have worked various Event Management, Content Writing, Admin and Project Coordinator roles. I’m currently working a freelance Project Coordinator role coordinating a leadership course for a Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
If you’re interested in freelance work Fiverr is a great place to start. Some of my freelance contracts were found by chance when looking on job boards for part time work. I’ve also found that making it known that you’re open for extra work through your network helps too.
Market Research – £250
Signing up for market research calls is one of the easiest ways to earn money. Anyone can do it, you just need to be comfortable video calling a researcher and sharing your opinion. This month I took part in 2 market research calls, earning £250 in total.
Surveys – £74.97
Completing surveys in your spare time isn’t going to make you rich but it might just provide you with a little extra pocket money. I save up my survey earnings to pay for treats. This month I earned £7.25 from the Premise app, £22.72 from Prolific, £10 (gift card) from Maru Voice UK and £35 from Swagbucks.
Selling – £96
I try to regularly declutter and part of decluttering for me is selling my old unwanted items. This month I managed to make £46 from Facebook marketplace and £50 from eBay sales.
