10 Ways to Earn Money Online

As the world has become increasingly digital, more and more people are looking for ways to earn money online. This could mean supplementing your income, moving away from traditional employment or finding ways to effortlessly earn more money. Whatever the case, when it comes to earning money online the possibilities are endless.

For the past year I’ve regularly earned between £500-£1000 online every month. These are just some of the ways I boost my income and make money online.

10 Ways to Earn Money Online

Surveys

Consumers’ opinions matter. Marketing and advertising that can target specific demographics and groups of people, from stay-at-home-moms to teenage athletes, are simply more effective. But in order to be effective they have to have the data to back up their campaigns. And that’s where you (and modern online surveys) come in.

Many companies today essentially pay you to take their questionnaires. Simply answer questions and provide feedback for a range of products and services and be compensated for your time. Swagbucks, Prolific, and YouGove are among the popular options. Here are some of the survey sites I use to earn money online:

You’re unlikely to make big money by doing online surveys. That being said, the more time you put into surveys the more money you will earn, and it’s a pretty low effort way to earn money on the internet.

Investment Apps

It used to be that you had to have serious capital and a professional broker in order to invest in the stock market (or any other asset for that matter). Nowadays, though, there are apps that make it easy. Many people who are looking to make money online these days are doing so through investment apps.

There’s a risk factor with any investment, your money can go down as well as up. If you’re interested in giving investments a go, some of my favourite investment apps are currently offering welcome bonuses:

  • Robinhood – When you open a Robinhood Invest account, you’ll get a free share worth £5-£100 when you deposit £1. Earn up to $1500 from referrals every year.
  • WeBull – claim 3 fractional shares worth between $9-$900 by signing up (and leaving £1 in your account for 180 days).

Matched Betting

Mаtched bеtting is a bеtting technique used to profit from the free bets and incentives offered by bookmakers. It is considered a tax and risk-free way to earn money online if used correctly. Check out my matched betting guide for some helpful tips to getting started with matched betting.

Once you get into the swing of matched betting there are also a range of offers you can take advantage of to boost your income from online bookmakers including seasonal offers and free spins.

Freelance your skills

The flexibility, independence, and opportunity to make more money are just a couple of the reason why more people are opting to become freelancers. The most in-demand freelancers include:

  • Social Media Marketer
  • Web Designer
  • Writing/Content Editing
  • Graphic Designer
  • Photographer
  • Accountant/Bookkeeper
  • Virtual Assistant

Fiverr is where I go to find freelance gigs. But other websites that are worth visiting to find freelance work are FlexJobs, PeoplePerHour, Toptal, and Freelancer. The key to getting more freelance gigs is to network well, get good reviews and have the confidence to put yourself out there.

Become a search engine evaluator

I started working as a social media evaluator last year and earned up to £900 a month! There is a whole range of social media and search engine evaluation jobs open to new recruits. The specifics of the projects vary but usually involve you (an independent contractor) rating the ads, search engine results or news articles that you see online.

Payment can also vary but the social media evaluation that I’ve done in the past earned me £10/$14+ an hour! The most common marketplace for evaluator roles are Appen and Lionbridge. You will often require a level of reading and writing skills for these roles; this is usually tested in an online quiz provided by the contractor.

Cashback websites

This is a bit more of a real-world activity with an online component. Earn cash back on your groceries (which you have to buy anyway). Some apps, like Shopmium, CheckoutSmart and Green Jinn, require you to scroll through their offers and add the ones you want to your account. Then scan your receipt after your shop to earn rewards.

Meanwhile, other grocery rewards apps like Airtime Rewards only require you to connect a credit or debit card to your account. These apps then directly pay you cash back for shopping at their selected retailers.

My favourite cashback method is directly through the website. I use TopCashback as my primary cashback site and have managed to earn over £1000! It’s simple, just sign up, find a retailer and click through to website (cashback is tracked automatically).

Earning money as a blogger

Blogging is a brilliant way to earn money online and share your story or knowledge with the world. There are various opportunities for you to earn money once you own your own blog. The most common ways that bloggers earn money are:

  • Sponsored/guest posts
  • Paid advertising
  • Selling digital products
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Freelance writing

I cannot recommend creating your own blog enough. I started beemoneysavvy.com in 2018 and love creating new posts, working with brands, and the extra income is also appreciated. If this is something you would like to do, check out my guide to help you start your own blog.

You can find a detailed explanation of all the ways that bloggers earn money here. That being said, it’s important to remember that earning money as a blogger doesn’t happen overnight. I was blogging for at least a year before my blog started generating income.

Market research projects

Over the past year, I’ve earned £100’s from market research interviews. Often this will involve filling in your demographics to see if you qualify for the research, arranging a time (to suit you) for a researcher to call you, and them asking you a range of questions about your thoughts towards a product or service. These opportunities tend to be well paid often in the range of £75 for 1-hour video call.

Respondent offers a range of work from home research projects that you can complete using your webcam, telephone or laptop. The projects vary so you do need to check the website regularly to see if you qualify for new projects. I’ve earned £50 for a quick chat in a chatroom with a Respondent research project before, but some report earning £1000+.

Smartphone apps

Another great way to add to your work from home income is by using smartphone apps. There are apps that pay you to complete surveys, mystery shopping apps, apps that pay you to upload your receipts, and more! Here are my favourite smartphone apps along with how much I earn from them on the average week:

  • VoxPopMe – complete video surveys (£2 a week)
  • BeMyEye – mystery shopping (£5 a week)
  • Shoppix – upload your receipts (£5 a month)
  • Field Agent – shopping audits (£5 a week)

BeMyEye is my best iPhone App earner. I’ve made £20 by enquiring about a new contract in a mobile phone shop, £5 from taking pictures of a shopping aisle and £3 from taking pictures of a display in my local supermarket. It’s easy to rack up your smartphone earnings if you have spare time.

Refer a friend programmes

Referral programmes can be a great way to generate income from your blog, social media following or friends. Tons of businesses offer refer a friend programmes where you can recommend their service to a friend and gain a reward when they sign up. Some of the referral programmes that I regularly promote include:

I’ve earned £100’s by referring friends to various services. My Octopus referrals amount to over £400 (paying for a year’s worth of energy), and I have over £100 in referral credit on Shopmium (meaning lots more free food for me).
